Day One Hundred Seventy Six 2011

One is the loneliest sunflower. After hubby Neil hacked down the jungle that was flourishing on our back hillside, he discovered this lonely sunflower growing there, thanks to some bird or squirrel that must have dropped the seed in the weeds. It is a pretty pitiful specimen. I've never seen one with petals growing out of the center of the seed pod. I guess we'll leave it out there and see what comes of it. I love sunflowers, so one is better than none.

That is one awesome sunflower! Very unique. I've never seen one with petals growing out of the center of the flower! We have one growing near our bird feeders. Not sure if it's a sunflower or a safflower. Can't wait to find out :0)

COOL! Mutant sunflower. Maybe it absorbed it's twin.

That is a strange specimen. Maybe Kelly's right. Remember when that sunflower got absorbed by it's twin? :)
