Here’s a fun fact for you: Levi Strauss, a Bavarian immigrant who went to San Francisco during the Gold Rush, made his first pair of ‘jeans’ out of canvas. He was a tailor and an inventor. After I read this, I noticed that grandson Elijah, grand daughter Shelby and I were all wearing jeans today (even though none are Levis). So here’s to Levi Strauss (1829-1902), who’s birthday happens to be today. Without him, most of us would be running around naked on any given day of the week. I know I would.
"All photographs are memento mori. To take a photograph is to participate in another person’s (or thing’s) mortality, vulnerability, mutability. Precisely by slicing out this moment and freezing it, all photographs testify to time’s relentless melt."— Susan Sontag
