4th of July feast
The flooding rains drove us indoors this year, but that didn’t stop us from our annual get together. There were 19 of us this year.
We all couldn’t fit around the big table, but that’s OK.

One of the best things about the 4th ~ homemade ice cream!
Granddaughter Shelby was stylin in her red, white and blue.
Last year, the drought was so bad, we were terrified to shoot off fireworks.
This year, there was zero chance of setting anything on fire. The highlight of our 4th is always fireworks, and we go all out ~ even if it means setting off fireworks in the rain.
We lit up the cloudy sky and watched from under the back porch.
Thanks to Jerry, Kerry, and Don who got drenched setting our sky on fire.
They were awesome even in the rain. Fireworks never get old and something I look forward to every July 4th.
Some of us didn’t care if we got wet ~ it was fun anyway.
Our grand finale was three fountains of sparklers ~ so cool.
Happy 237th Birthday, America!

Day One Hundred Eighty Six 2012
HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!
Celebrating Independence
Family, Food, Fun, Fireworks!
What a fabulous Fourth! My family celebrated America’s birthday with our annual backyard get together. We enjoyed an awesome meal, homemade ice cream, some corn hole competition, and in spite of drought conditions, managed a brief fireworks display without setting the world on fire. I love my family and I love this country and I thank God every day that I get to live in the land of the free! Happy birthday, America!

Day One Hundred Eighty Five 2010
Happy Independence Day, America!
The Ranft, Myers, Kimbrough, Foy, Sissom and Mabry Families gathered in our back yard for our Fourth of July/Independence Day celebration. We enjoyed a great meal that included Neil's grilled pork ribs, Ann's potato salad, Don's cole slaw, Holly's deviled eggs and Mexican salad and awesome desserts like Neil's homemade ice cream, Holly's blueberry upside down cake, Jane's peanut butter fudge and lemon ice box pie made with Mom's recipe. We played corn hole (thanks Ann and Terry for bringing your game) and watched the local fireworks show (crazy windy ride in the back of Jerry's truck--thanks for taking us, Jerry). To top it all off, Kerry, Jerry and Don set off a ton of fireworks which was a brilliant Fourth of July display that rivaled the big city fireworks (just as good and no traffic). Talk about shock and awe! What a great time we had together. We are so blessed to get to live in this country. Happy Birthday, America!
