Day One Hundred Sixty Eight 2010

Little Bit Of This, Little Bit Of That

Grand kids Shelby and Elijah were getting dressed just before lunch this morning. Elijah put his Scooby Doo underwear on his head and raced around the room. Kids in motion always make for blurry pictures, but it's hard to resist.

Elijah Man (and underwear) in motion. Makes me dizzy.

They made Father's Day cards for their dad this afternoon. I have lots of card stock (Shelby calls it "thick paper", which it is), and they like to use my stamps and stamp pads to create their art. Shelby's card is so sweet. Her daddy is going to love it.

Elijah stamped for a while, then realized it was much more fun making colorful fingerprints. His card is pretty cool.

Gala apple slices dipped in caramel make a yummy snack. For me.

Neil bought a sack of peaches from the Mennonite family's fruit and veggie stand on Willow Avenue at lunch. He and daughter Holly love peaches. Peaches smell like Summer to me. Holly sniffed one and said, "Smells like Grandpa. He always had peaches." I thought that was such a sweet remembrance.

The Dahlia takes a bow. Lots of them blooming in the backyard right now. Hope your Thursday was full of good stuff, too.

Day One Hundred Sixty Seven 2010

Blast From The Past

Here is grand daughter Shelby from this time three years ago in the pool in the back yard with brother Elijah and her lady bug friend. So sweet! They are growing up way too fast. (Wish we still had that pool....)

Day One Hundred Sixty Six 2010

Help

I hear this little voice calling to me from the hallway this morning: "Granny, help me get down." So of course I take his picture while he hangs on to the banister. Grandson Elijah loves to climb. He also managed to get down all by himself.

Day One Hundred Sixty Five 2010

Flag Day

Since today is Flag Day, I thought I'd share a picture of my U.S. flag. This was taken a year ago. This flag is now hanging in the back yard for the time being until we can finish our front yard landscaping. Three cheers for the red, white and blue! I love those stars and stripes.

Day One Hundred Sixty Four 2010

Sunday rANd0M

Neil worked all afternoon in the 90+ degree heat getting started on the stone pathway in the front yard. The path will curve around the side of the house and connect with the path already there. We couldn't find stones to match it, but we don't much care.

Tools of the trade. Gratuitous shovel close-up.

You've heard of the 'dog days of summer'. These must be the cat days of spring. Hard to believe that, in this heat, it's still officially spring time in Tennessee. Buddy Cat can snooze most anywhere any time in any kind of weather.

The path is starting to take shape. We agree it needs more randomness. Those smaller roundish stones we bought at the Nashville Flea Market. Each one has a family member name on it. Neil is going to scatter them (perhaps randomly?) around the larger stones. Oddly enough, we found one with the year 1983 on it--which is the year we moved into this house. Now that's random.

My sister Jane and I are Dan Fogelberg fans, so I'll bet she remembers the line from a song called 'Comes And Goes' that says: "A woman's like an ivy on a pole. She wraps her twisted love around my soul." I was never quite sure what to make of that, but it's the first thing I thought of when I saw this vine wrapping itself around the stop sign pole. Just one of those random thoughts, I guess.
