Day Two Hundred Sixteen 2010

Breaking News ...

I went outside today only when I had to, because it was HOT. 100+ degrees most everywhere except maybe the Southern Hemisphere, where it is Winter. You lucky people! Well, it is Summer in the South in August, so the heat should come as no big surprise to those of us who have lived here all our lives. Hard to imagine the concept of a Snow Day right now, but it's coming. Probably not soon enough for some of us. For now I think I'll stay inside. This too shall pass.

Day Two Hundred Fifteen 2010

Hanging Out With Elijah

Grandson Elijah is hanging out with me part time this week until his stint at Mother's Day Out starts next week. He looks like Mr. Tough Guy in this pic.

Had his "wife beater" undershirt on today. He gets a kick out of saying that. He also gets a kick out of those old Fisher Price Little People.

Twelve car pile up on Elijah Highway. Circus train involved. Massive Little People casualties. Somebody call 911.

Checking out the Ziploc bags of old toys his mom played with. Sometimes he runs across something interesting.

"Hey! It's E.T.!" he says, seeming amazed by that discovery. We watched that movie while we were in Florida recently.

He picked ChickFil-a for lunch. We checked out the giant watermelon sitting there.

Pay a dollar and guess the watermelon's weight. Money goes to a charity--I forget what. Maybe less than fifty but more than twenty five? Who knows. Just don't touch it or sit on it, please.

"Lick. Lick. Lick," as Steve would be thinking in the Cloudy w/Meatballs movie. I get a kick out of the Solaris color setting on my cell phone camera. And it's always a kick spending the day with my favorite Little Man, although he's not so little these days. Don't grow up too fast, Elijah!

Day Two Hundred Fourteen 2010

Blast From The Past

I didn't take any pictures today. Not one. So I shall share a cute grandson Elijah picture from around this time in 2007. Major cuteness going on, but I'm a bit prejudiced. Oh well. What can I say. I'm a granny.

Day Two Hundred Thirteen 2010

Happy 9th Birthday, Shelby! Part II

We celebrated granddaughter Shelby's 9th birthday two weeks ago today in Destin, Florida--July 18, her actual birth date. But she wanted to have a party at home to celebrate with other very important loved ones who couldn't be at the beach party.

Shelby is now an expert at making wishes and blowing out birthday candles.

Shelby's brother Elijah and her cousin Julia Foy were by her side while she unwrapped her gifts. The look on Elijah's face is priceless. You would have thought she had just pulled a pony out of that gift bag.

This awesome portrait of Shelby was drawn and colored by her cousin Julia as part of a special folder of artwork created especially for Shelby's birthday. Suitable for framing.

Shelby enjoyed her party and all her gifts, but there was just something about that fuzzy pink pillow. Wishing you a happy year, Shelby! Love you!

Day Two Hundred Twelve 2010

That Was The Week That Was

When I started this blog in 2009, I also started making scrapbook pages using my pictures from the blog--a picture a day for a year--but using a weekly format for each page. Needless to say, I'm way behind in the scrapbooking department. I did a few pages today and got caught up to week thirty of 2009, which happens to coincide with the present week. So here's a snapshot of a week that was. Some things have changed: Eddie Kitty is no longer with us, grandson Elijah has grown several inches, and the front porch could use another coat of paint. But some things are the same: we still enjoy Harry Potter movie weekends, I made a lemon ice box pie today, and the kids still get a kick out of throwing rocks into the pond where my mom lives. While life is flying by me at the speed of light, I'm grateful I've got some snapshots to remember what was.
