Grandson Elijah turned 5 years old on August 17. His big birthday bash was today at his house with lots of family and friends on hand to help him celebrate this milestone. It was hot today, so the kids had a blast on the giant slip and slide, and the grown ups enjoyed the cool mist blowing on us from the slide. We enjoyed yummy cake, punch and ice cream, and watching Elijah open his cards and gifts was like watching a whirl wind. The kids each took a swing at the T Rex pinata, then raced around collecting the candy that showered out of it after they broke it. Elijah seemed to enjoy his big day. I'm always thankful to get to be a part of watching him grow up. Happy Birthday, Elijah! I love you!!

Day Two Hundred Thirty 2011
Even though Talk Like A Pirate Day is a whole month away, the residents at the assisted living home where my mom lives are dressing up like pirates today and getting ready to enjoy a bon voyage dinner of fish and chips. (Actually I don't think anyone there is going anywhere anytime soon). The pirate theme is all in fun. So here's my dear mom, dressed up like Captain Jack Sparrow, along with the rest of the mateys. By the way, she has an earring in her left ear but you can't see it. Argh!

Day Two Hundred Twenty Nine 2011
Grandson Elijah has been counting down the days to August 17. He turned 5 years old today. His mom made chocolate cupcakes for him to share with his kindergarten class, and his teacher asked him if he wanted a birthday hug or a birthday spanking. He's a smart kid, so he opted for the hug. His teacher gave him five hugs and one to grow on. He also made this cool birthday hat to wear in class. He loves video games, so Neil and I gave him 'Donkey Kong' for Wii (now he won't have to borrow his neighbor-friend's game). He was very pleased with that. We offered to take him somewhere for some birthday ice cream, but he preferred a Drumstick ice cream cone straight out of Granny's freezer. He's a simple man with simple tastes it seems. Happy 5th Birthday, Elijah!! Granny and Grandpa love you to pieces!! His big birthday party is this Saturday (with a giant 35 foot slip n slide!). Stay tuned.
