Day One Hundred Thirty Eight 2011

I'm tooting grand daughter Shelby's horn today because I'm one proud granny. She received her 4th grade completion certificate and also received the award for outstanding academic achievement and a medal for all As and Bs this school year. Way to go, Shelby, for a job well done, not only this year, but every year you've been at Capshaw. I love you and I'm so very proud of you today and always.

Day One Hundred Thirty Seven 2011

When grand daughter Shelby told me she got to bring her recorder home from school today, my dusty old mind immediately flashed on a cassette tape recorder. I couldn't imagine what she'd be doing with one of those. Maybe ancient technology relics show and tell. Then she showed me this beautiful little musical instrument that she's been learning how to play in music class. She played a couple of tunes and I recognized them, so the music lessons paid off. She's very proud of her recorder. Tomorrow she graduates from 4th grade. They won't have a formal ceremony--just recognizing the fourth graders and handing out awards for certain achievements. It will be her last class day at Capshaw. Thursday and Friday she and other fourth graders get to go to a camp and have some fun. Then it's off to middle school in late summer. As the song says, time keeps on slipping into the future.

Remembering my little brother Rob who passed away three years ago today. They say time heals all wounds, and it does, but this one is going to take a while.

Day One Hundred Thirty Six 2011

Grandson Elijah graduated from his Mother's Day Out pre-school this evening. The director, Donna Johnson, and all the teachers did an awesome job of putting together this memorable and oh so sweet event. Elijah is so proud of his diploma, and we are so very proud of him. He'll be off to kindergarten in late summer this year. We love you, Elijah! Congratulations!

Day One Hundred Thirty Five 2011

Son in law Kerry gave me some starter for Amish Cinnamon Bread. After mushing the bag every day and adding more milk, sugar, and flour and mushing it some more and watching it bubble for the past ten days, it was finally ready to add all the other ingredients and bake two big loaves of heaven. Neil and I enjoyed huge slices of this bread hot from the oven. It turned out great! Now I have four bags of starter to share. I'll keep one for myself and save one for Kerry. Neil plans on giving one to a guy at work who likes to cook. And I'm going to give one to a sweet neighbor lady who gave me homemade pumpkin bread last fall. (Thanks again, Kerry!)

Day One Hundred Thirty Four 2011

I guess my gardener hubby Neil didn't consider the color clash of orange day lilies and hot pink hydrangeas when he planted them side by side, but that's okay. I kind of like it.
