We know that in September, we will wander through the warm winds of summer's wreckage. We will welcome summer's ghost.

Day Two Hundred 2013

"That beautiful season the Summer!
Filled was the air with a dreamy and magical light;
And the landscape
Lay as if new created in all the freshness of childhood."
-  Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Happy TGIF! Hope your day was filled with magical light.

Day One Hundred Seventy Five 2013

One is the loneliest number ~ so it is for this Calla Lily that blooms in our back yard every Summer. She’s right on time. Why don’t we have more of these in our yard? I’m sure she’d love some company.

Day One Hundred Twenty Seven 2013

Flowers are restful to look at. They have neither emotions nor conflicts.

This is what’s left of the one and only bloom on our lilac bush. Pretty little purple petals dashed on the rocks. Bummer. I took this picture with my cell phone camera set on solari color. It’s a neat effect.

Day One Hundred Five 2013

"Since Iris is the Greek goddess for the Messenger of Love, her sacred flower is considered the symbol of communication and messages. Greek men would often plant an iris on the graves of their beloved women as a tribute to the goddess Iris, whose duty it was to take the souls of women to the Elysian fields*."      ~Hana No Monogatari: The Stories of Flowers

[*The Elysian Fields or Elysium refer to a beautiful meadow in Homer where the favored of Zeus enjoy perfect happiness. By the time of Vergil (Virgil), the Elysian Fields had been located in the Underworld as the home of the dead who were judged worthy. In the Aeneid, those blessed dead compose poetry, sing, dance, and tend to their chariots.]

I love the Irises that bloom in our yard. The Iris is the Tennessee state flower.

Don’t say I never taught ya nothin.

First two pics are macro daffodil { buttercup, jonquil}. The one in the last pic I found on the deck post. Someone (I’m guessing a grandchild)  had picked it and then forgot it.

"By all these lovely tokens
September days are here,
With summer’s best of weather
And autumn’s best of cheer."

When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best...
And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life.

Day One Hundred Seventeen 2012

IMG_4882
Let’s dance! I snapped these two ants with my macro lens this afternoon. They were crawling around on a clover flower in my back yard and were about the size of the exclamation point in that first sentence. When they found each other, they paused long enough to say ‘hi’ to each other (and for me to snap this picture while they were still) and then they moved on. Places to go, other ants to see, I guess.

Day Seventy Six 2012

.....three days ago
....and today. The best part of spring (and it isn't even officially spring yet!) is when our cherry trees bloom.

"Loveliest of trees, the cherry now
Is hung with bloom along the bough."
- A. E. Houseman, Shropshire Lad
