Day Fifty Nine 2013

IMG_1158
Happy Birthday to my honey/hubby Neil who turned 62 today.
IMG_1142
We enjoyed a yummy supper at Ocha Thai deli this evening (the only one missing is son in law Kerry) and will party tomorrow night with cake and ice cream for the birthday boy.
IMG_1149
We attended grandson Elijah’s Vision Basketball awards this evening. What a great night for all the kids who played this season. This was Elijah’s first time playing basketball, and he loved it. He won a team trophy, as all the kids did, but also won a medal for memorizing all his Bible verses for this season. And each team had one member who won a special award called the Paul award for player who improved most during the season. Elijah won this award. I am so proud of you, Elijah! Loved watching all your games and looking forward to seeing you play again next year.

Day Fifty Seven 2013

IMG_8794
Here’s a fun fact for you:  Levi Strauss, a Bavarian immigrant who went to San Francisco during the Gold Rush, made his first pair of ‘jeans’ out of canvas. He was a tailor and an inventor. After I read this, I noticed that grandson Elijah, grand daughter Shelby and I were all wearing jeans today (even though none are Levis). So here’s to Levi Strauss (1829-1902), who’s birthday happens to be today. Without him, most of us would be running around naked on any given day of the week. I know I would.

“Beneath the crisp and wintry carpet hid A million buds but stay their blossoming And trustful birds have built their nests amid The shuddering boughs, and only wait to sing Till one soft shower from the south shall bid And hither tempt the pilgrim steps of Spring.”

Day Fifty Five 2013

IMG_8783
One of the things I look forward to at the Nashville Flea Market is visiting the vendor who sells goodies, like country ham and all sorts of homemade snacks, cookies, cakes and fried pies. They didn't have my favorite chocolate chess, but this peach fried pie made a tasty snack this Sunday afternoon.

Day Fifty Four 2013

Saturday  Saturday Ever Lovin Saturday!
IMG_1057
Neil and I began a busy Saturday this morning watching grandson Elijah’s last Vision Basketball game of the season.
IMG_1075
Lots of action from one end of the court to the other. Elijah scored several points. His blue team lost to the orange team by 4 points.
IMG_1080
We’ve loved watching him play basketball each Saturday for the past two months because the game is action packed and he has enjoyed playing it so much. Great job, Elijah and team blue! We’re proud of you!
0223031202
After the game, Neil and I headed to the Nashville Flea Market. We usually avoid the Saturday market because it’s wall to wall people. This bell jar stuffed with grapes caught my eye. It was kind of pretty and a little strange. But that’s what the flea market is all about.
0223031206
Hints of spring all around. Metal sunflower garden ornaments were sprouting at this vendor’s stall. Sunflowers are happy things~~real or otherwise~~and always make me smile.
0223031213
A basket of colorful bowling balls and pins. They looked plastic, but were the real deal.
0223031213b
This one’s for Sarah.
0223031214b
R is for …
0223031216
This lady was begging me to take her picture. She just didn’t know it. Shame on me. But her hat was killing me. I followed her around for a while. She fit right in here.
0223031221
This was something from a bygone era offered in a comic vendor’s stall. Check out that price tag.
0223031228a
Every time I see bunnies, I think of my sister Ann.
0223031229a
It’s a little early for Halloween, but there ya go.
0223031229b
I have no idea what these things are or what they’re for but they kind of creep me out.
0223031230a
Guess what movie this horse head (lamp) made me think of. I wonder if anybody made this vendor an offer he couldn’t refuse. (That was a hint)
0223031237
I go to pieces, sang Peter and Gordon. Remember them? And Patsy Cline sang I fall to pieces. I wonder what happened to this poor doll. Maybe she was loved to pieces.
0223031251
I really wanted to buy this.
0223031357
Such good advice.
0223031445
After the flea market, Neil and I were headed to daughter Kelly’s, but when we called, she and Knox were going down for a much needed nap. So we detoured into the Super Target in Smyrna and enjoyed a skinny vanilla latte while we rested our tired feet. Then we browsed Target. What a cool store. Wish we had one here.
IMG_1082
Hi. I’m Knox. I just woke up from a two+ hour nap.
IMG_1103
Grandpa and Granny brought him a SnugAMonkey from Target. It’s soft and cuddly and plays soft bedtime sounds and music. He loved it. And the box it came in. He calls Neil ‘Pa’. He hasn’t learned how to say Granny yet, although he does pronounce it something like ‘Ninny’ which is what I called my maternal grandmother.
0223031816
We hit ‘Toots’ for supper and enjoyed their yummy boneless chicken fingers and gigantic onion rings. We used to have a ‘Toots’, but not any more, so it’s a treat to eat here when we visit Kelly.
0223031816c
The monkey enjoyed it, too.
IMG_1132
Bath time! Splash time!
IMG_1135
Dancing in my new jammies time!
IMG_1141
This picture cracks me up. It was not posed and totally accidental~~grandson Knox and his daddy Kerry playing with blue balls. They even have the same facial expression. How cute is that. So we began and ended our ever lovin Saturday with balls. More fun than human beings should be allowed to have, especially in one day. It’s always an awesome day when I get to spend it with my peeps!

Day Fifty Three 2013

TGIF Randomness
0222031221
Never stop. Never stop fighting. Never stop dreaming.  ~Tom Hiddleston
IMG_8778
Fillet of a fenny snake,
In the cauldron boil and bake;
Eye of newt and toe of frog,
Wool of bat and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg and owlet's wing,
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.
Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and cauldron bubble.
Actually, I was cooking up some rice to go with a slow cooker meal for supper tonight.
IMG_8780
Because where else would you be?
IMG_8781
This might look like eye of newt and toe of frog, but it’s really sweet and sour chicken with broccoli over that rice I was just telling you about. Sure beats wool of bat and tongue of dog.
Facetime with Knox Kelly 2 22 12 2
A little Facetime after supper with grandson Knox and daughter Kelly. Here, Knox was watching his fave PBS show ‘Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood’ (based on Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood). It’s such a sweet show. He was about two inches from the TV screen.  He loves to dance to the music.
Happy TGIF, everyone! Hope you got to dance, too, maybe when nobody was looking.

Day Fifty Two 2013

0221031236
Popped into Hobby Lobby right after lunch today with the urge to browse, which I never seem to do there. Seems I’m usually in there on a quest for something specific like a picture frame or a piece for a project I’m working on. They offer such cool and interesting stuff~~like this bold eye candy sofa and stools which I’d probably never have the guts to buy. It caught my eye (whimsical things usually do)  so I took it home with me in a picture. I also appreciate Hobby Lobby’s strong Christian based ideals and the things they offer in their store that feed the soul as well as the mind. No, this is not a paid advertisement. I’m just sayin’.

Randomness. again.

Afternoon out my front door
lamp
Two of my favorite things~stained glass and a book of quotes.

I tried a new slow cooker recipe for supper~sausage and black bean soup.  It was yummy.

Always do whatever’s next.

Day Fifty 2013

Randomness
0219031419
Taking the back road home
0219031420
I love a sunny blue sky day
0219031422
Windy today, like March, only it’s not. Yet.
0219031503
Grandson ‘Gangsta’ Elijah after school (he said he was wearing his hat like a gangsta, so he gave me a gangsta face and some gangsta moves)
0219031648
Juicy navel orange slices ended up in a fruit salad for supper tonight. Good stuff.
Hope there was some good stuff in your Tuesday. Especially the random kind.

Day Forty Nine 2013

On the road to Chattanooga
On the road 2
where we rarely travel
On the road
the East Tennessee landscape is undeniably beautiful
On the road 3
even in the dead of winter

At some point in life the world’s beauty becomes enough. You don’t need to photograph, paint, or even remember it. It is enough.
~Toni Morrison

I haven’t reached that point in life just yet.
