Day Two Hundred Eighty Two 2011

IMG_2044
Here’s my personal pumpkin patch on my front porch. I think I need a big tall orange one to go with these. And mums. I definitely need some mums. And Indian corn. My stuffed scarecrow guy is still in the attic. Is it just me, or are the days whipping by? Autumn always goes by way too fast. If I’m not careful, I’m going to miss it.

Day Two Hundred Seventy Seven 2010

Gnarly

Found this most gnarly pumpkin at Wal-Mart today, so of course I had to have it. And of course I had to take its picture with my cell camera in the Solaris color setting (which seems to make everything a little gnarlier). Wonder if it would make a good Jack O Lantern? Stay tuned.

Day Three Hundred Twenty Five

My Big Back Yard (And Front Yard) Meanderings

Where have all the flowers gone? Dead Dahlias tell no lies.

I was surprised to find this one tiny little yellow rosebud blooming among the shriveled up brown things.

Eddy usually accompanies me along my meanderings around the yard. He was in attack mode today.

I think this is called Pampas grass. It's really pretty in the Fall when it starts to bend toward the ground and get all curly. The white fluffy curly stuff gets all over your clothes when you rub up against it. Ask me how I know.

Buried treasure. Not really. I saw a piece of glass sticking out of the dirt where one of the boxwood bushes used to be next to the porch. It's a piece of a forgotten wind chime that fell apart a very long time ago.

View from the front porch swing this afternoon.

The gnarly orange pumpkin, along with my Cinderella pumpkins, are still hanging in there on the front porch. They usually give up by March.

Parting shot. Eddie Kitty is but an orange blur as he streaks past me, heading toward the kitchen and the food bowl. Eddie says goodbye. For now.

Day Two Hundred Eighty One

Random Pictures From Today

I love pumpkins. I especially love gnarly pumpkins. This is the gnarliest of gnarly pumpkins I believe I've ever seen.

I set out two pots of red mums on the front porch today. If they could speak, they would say, "Fall!"

I was wandering about the back yard with my camera this afternoon, as I often do, and these bugs caught my eye. They were gathered in a cluster on a rusty garden stake. I know they must be some kind of beetle. I've looked on the Internet and can't find any pictures similar to these. Anyone?

I found some gel sticker Halloween decorations at Super D drug store last week. Elijah and Shelby had a bunch of fun decorating the front storm door with them this afternoon.

They posed with the scarecrow and the pumpkins on the bench out front. Shelby got to go on a field trip to Muddy Pond with her class today. She bought that little pumpkin for fifty cents. I had to beg Elijah to put his nice sweater back on for this picture. He said it was hot and scratchy, but he relented after I promised him he could take it back off after I got done taking pictures.

It's beginning to look a lot like Halloween! I love this time of year!
