Pieces of Thursday
Our sweet neighbor kitty Lily found some warmth and comfort in the scarecrow’s lap on this damp cold day.
Grandpeeps Shelby and Elijah on Fall Break [which is quickly winding down, much to their distress] pose with the Grim Reaper at Panda Garden restaurant after lunch.
Doughnut run to Ralph’s this afternoon [we were bored slugs, what can I say]. I enjoyed that one in the top right corner of the box ~ a pumpkin doughnut. Delicious way to celebrate October and gain back a pound [or two].

Day Two Hundred Ninety Eight 2012
Grandpeeps Elijah and Shelby hanging out with the scarecrow that Shelby named Jeff. Jeff has been around every Autumn since Shelby was four years old, and each year we take a picture. The tradition continues this year as well. Jeff never grows up, however, these two are, all too quickly.
"No spring nor summer beauty hath such grace as I have seen in one autumnal face."

Day Two Hundred Eighty Five 2011
My grand peeps, Shelby and Elijah, spent the day with me today. They are on the last leg of their Fall Break. Here are the two artists at work, creating Halloween pictures.
After lunch, we went on a quest to acquire mums and more pumpkins (you can never have too many pumpkins) and some strings of orange Halloween lights for their mom. We were successful as you can see by the stuffed trunk of the Granny Mobile.
We bought some new creepy Halloween gummy type stickers for the front door and dug out the old ones from last year.
They enjoyed placing the stickers in just the right spots.
And as you can see they did a great job decorating my front door. Festive and yet spooky, yes?
We spent the whole afternoon outside. It was a gorgeous day for jumping on the trampoline……
…..and catching leaves as the wind brought them down in a shower off the trees.
I added a couple of orange pumpkins and purple mums to my Autumn porch display. The scarecrow seems to like it.
I really enjoyed spending the day with two of my most favorite Peeps! Love those smiles!

Day Two Hundred Sixty Eight 2010
Pumpkin Time!
For me, Autumn is the most wonderful time of the year--pumpkins and gourds, scarecrows and pumpkin people, Indian corn, candy corn, and leaves turning their true colors.

"Back into your garden-beds!
Here come the holidays!
And woe to the golden pumpkin-heads
Attracting too much praise.
Hide behind the hoe, the plow,
Cling fast to the vine!
Those who come to praise you now
Will soon sit down to dine."

Day Two Hundred Eighty One
Random Pictures From Today
I set out two pots of red mums on the front porch today. If they could speak, they would say, "Fall!"
I was wandering about the back yard with my camera this afternoon, as I often do, and these bugs caught my eye. They were gathered in a cluster on a rusty garden stake. I know they must be some kind of beetle. I've looked on the Internet and can't find any pictures similar to these. Anyone?
I found some gel sticker Halloween decorations at Super D drug store last week. Elijah and Shelby had a bunch of fun decorating the front storm door with them this afternoon.
They posed with the scarecrow and the pumpkins on the bench out front. Shelby got to go on a field trip to Muddy Pond with her class today. She bought that little pumpkin for fifty cents. I had to beg Elijah to put his nice sweater back on for this picture. He said it was hot and scratchy, but he relented after I promised him he could take it back off after I got done taking pictures.
I love pumpkins. I especially love gnarly pumpkins. This is the gnarliest of gnarly pumpkins I believe I've ever seen.
