“Never laugh at live dragons, Bilbo you fool!”
― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit
Neil and I took grandpeeps Shelby and Elijah to the movies this afternoon and immersed ourselves in the lives and times of Hobbits, Dwarves, Elves, Orcs, and the occasional human or two.
A bucket of popcorn is a must for a movie like The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug, which runs for nearly three hours [not counting commercials and previews of coming attractions].
Shelby found this piece of popcorn shaped like Mickey Mouse, so I had to take its picture. She said she couldn’t eat it because it was too cute. And then she accidentally dropped it between our seats. I attempted to retrieve it for her, but there was too much ickiness under there. We all enjoyed the movie. All the “ring” movies are fun, especially if you like Hobbits. Looking forward to part three.
“May the hair on your toes never fall out!”

Day Three Hundred Sixty One 2013
It’s easy when your cup is full of boiled custard and whipped cream.
Grandkids Shelby, Elijah and Knox hanging out at my house today ~ finally went outside this afternoon ~ I told Shelby to jump into the picture, so she did
Beautiful day for a stroll in the neighborhood ~ Knox is loving his new car that his Aunt Holly and Uncle Jerry and cousins Shelby and Elijah gave him for Christmas ~ it’s fun to ride when somebody is willing to push. Happy TGIF, everyone!

Day Two Hundred Ninety 2013
Pieces of Thursday
Our sweet neighbor kitty Lily found some warmth and comfort in the scarecrow’s lap on this damp cold day.
Grandpeeps Shelby and Elijah on Fall Break [which is quickly winding down, much to their distress] pose with the Grim Reaper at Panda Garden restaurant after lunch.
Doughnut run to Ralph’s this afternoon [we were bored slugs, what can I say]. I enjoyed that one in the top right corner of the box ~ a pumpkin doughnut. Delicious way to celebrate October and gain back a pound [or two].

Day Two Hundred Eighty Seven 2013
“My favorite word is 'pumpkin.' You are a pumpkin. Or you are not. I am.”
~Harrison E. Salisbury
My grandpeeps, Shelby and Elijah, are in their second week of Fall Break and spent the day with me. It was a gorgeous sunny cool Autumn day to spend some time outside. We decided it was a good idea to go pumpkin shopping this afternoon.
The kids said these pumpkins were as big as boulders, and they were. We all wanted one but figured we’d better stick with the smaller ones.
Elijah got the biggest kick out of all the funky looking squashes and gourds.
Shelby fell in love with the baby sized pumpkins.
I’m always attracted to the gnarly ones like these but I didn’t get one. They looked like they were covered in peanut shells.
I would rather sit on a pumpkin and have it all to myself, than be crowded on a velvet cushion.
~Henry David Thoreau
Shelby had to own this butt shaped pumpkin. We had a good laugh over this one.
Here’s what we ended up taking home. They’re going back later with their mom to pick out a big carving pumpkin. For now, they chose the little baby pumpkins, and Elijah got a couple of gourds he really liked [the one with the long neck he picked out for his mom]. The large pumpkin on the right is mine ~ it was a neat tear drop shape. Also got a weird looking gourd and a couple of tiny pumpkins. Good times in the pumpkin patch with my peeps.

Day Two Hundred Seventy Nine 2013
Whether the weather be fine,
Whether the weather be not,
Whether the weather be cold,
Whether the weather be hot,
We'll weather the weather,
Whatever the whether,
Whether we like it or not
~Author Unknown
Holly ~ making breakfast ~ bacon, scrambled eggs, toast
The sea was still angry today
What was left of Karen finally showed up this afternoon
Not much to do but hang out inside and watch football or Spongebob and read and maybe eat some left over shrimp
Fisherman’s Wharf
Neil got some sort of fried seafood platter and found this little guy on his plate
Sweet!
Gigantic peanut butter cup from the cool candy store ~ Shelby ate the whole thing
Gigantic jawbreaker from the cool candy store ~ Elijah is still working on it
Enjoyed a very laid back day at the beach while the waves kicked the shore and the rains finally blew through town. The only annoying thing about this day is our Internet service which I think got zapped yesterday when the electricity went off several times ~ it hasn’t worked right since ~ at least not in our room ~ I think the router needs replacing ~ finally had to go up to Kelly’s room to use their connection to upload Saturday’s post and probably this one ~ Other than that, good times, great memories.

Day Two Hundred Forty Seven 2013
Wacky Wednesday
Today was Wacky Day at school. Grandson Elijah was decked out in a knit cap he wore when he was a baby, his Angry Bird T shirt which he wore backwards, a cape which was also worn backwards, a pair of skull and crossbones PJ bottoms, a necktie, a bow tie, a glow in the dark necklace, two different shoes and one short sock and one long sock. And a pair of huge horn rimmed frames. Now that is wacky. And yet he did not win the wacky day contest for wackiest outfit. Go figure.
Grandson Knox got in on Wacky Day mania [forced to wear Elijah’s glasses simply for the photo op ~ but he obliged].
For Wacky Day, Granddaughter Shelby chose her paint splattered fedora, green and gray striped top, and pink and brown floral jeans. Wacky and tacky and a whole lot of fun that breaks up the boredom of a day at school.

Day Two Hundred Thirty Two 2013
Terrific Tuesday
A day without bubbles is a day without joy.
Grandson Knox lulled to sleep in his swing, holding a bubble wand that is his favorite color
A day without rain … would be a shock at this point
Grandson Elijah insisted that watching SpongeBob would not be a distraction while doing his math homework. He was wrong. Thank goodness for erasers.
Granddaughter Shelby gave her homework the raspberries ~ might be more fun if it was on her iPad
This evening, somebody [Neil] mentioned doughnuts, and we were all over it at Ralph’s. Knox knows what he wants. That one!
The full moon was gorgeous tonight hanging there in the clouds over West Side. Cell phone camera can do only so much ~
Just dump me in the box and I’ll eat my way out
Mm mm……it’s that good! Doughnuts help make a Tuesday even more terrific. Hope yours was, too!

Day Two Hundred Eleven 2013
Terrific Tuesday
I picked up granddaughter Shelby after school today ~ not something I usually do
She’s so pretty in pink!
After school seemed like a good time to visit Poet’s On The Square coffeehouse and treat ourselves ~ Frozen hot chocolate for me ~ served up in a Mason jar ~ yummy
Shelby and Elijah both ordered hot chocolate ~ whipped cream on top, of course ~ They enjoy chilling in these comfy swivel chairs ~ It’s a nice place to relax after a hard day at school
When Holly came to pick up the kids, she brought me this bouquet of Black-eyed Susan’s from her yard ~ What a nice surprise!
You never know what you’re going to get when you slice into a cantaloupe ~ This one turned out to be another sweet surprise
Neil and I made BLT’s for supper ~ one of my fave summertime meals [although these are yummy any time] ~ Thanks to my sister Ann for sharing her homegrown tomatoes ~ All it took was one juicy thick slice to cover all that crispy [almost burnt but that’s the way I like it] bacon
Tomato soup, BLT’s, cantaloupe ~ it’s what’s for dinner [supper if you live in the South] [I’ve had those pumpkins since last October and they’re still hanging in there] Hope you had a terrific Tuesday, too.
