Day Two Hundred Eighty Six

Each day just goes so fast. I turn around it's passed. You don't get time to hang a sign on me .....
'Love You To' ~ George Harrison

Got together for lunch with Mom, sisters, brother, nephew and nieces at Mom's place today. Ann, Ken, and Mom get ready to dig in.

Julia, Jane, and Ann caught in the act of some serious chowing down.

Ken and Chris share some laughs, while Sarah gets ready to pop open the pudding cup. We always have a great time getting together for lunch with Mom, especially during the school breaks. We laughed and cried and laughed some more and sang Beatles' tunes and ate Mom's left over cake she didn't eat because it had too much icing. Go figure. It all just goes so fast ... Good times, great memories!

Day Two Hundred Eighty Five

Indian corn is one of the best things about Autumn. My favorite is the variegated. I love all those purples, reds, and oranges.

Flint corn (usually of the yellow or white variety) is what is used for popcorn, and its flour is used to make tortillas. (I learned that just now because I Googled it.) I've had all of my Indian corn for years and years. I've learned to totally seal the box I store it in. Otherwise, hungry rodents manage to find it. One year I stashed a wreath made of Indian corn in the attic, failing to seal it inside a box. By the next Autumn, all that was left of the wreath was the naked corn cobs. Had a good laugh over that. But lesson learned.

Day Two Hundred Eighty Four

I got my pumpkin people out of the attic yesterday. It's just not October without them. I bought these at the Museum of Appalachia's homecoming several years ago, different years. The Museum of Appalachia is in Norris, Tennessee. They had their 30th annual homecoming this weekend--always in October. Wish I could have gone. Here is the link if you'd like to check it out sometime: http://www.museumofappalachia.org/

Day Two Hundred Eighty Three

Happy (Random) Saturday!

The University of Tennessee Volunteers beat the Georgia Bulldogs 45 to 19! Crompton looked like a quarterback today. UT fans hope this is a trend and not a fluke. Go VOLS!! I took this picture Friday of Elijah man checking out the orange and white Tennessee flag that hangs in our back yard.

Eddie kitty wore his UT Vols colors today.

This huge bee let me take his picture. He was holding on to the patio table umbrella and didn't seem to mind me getting up close and personal. He had these gnarly furry legs that looked more like a spider than a bee. I think he was in shock from the 56 degree temperature this afternoon. Even the bee had on some orange!

Neil has been busy the last couple of days repairing the dining room wall around the door we had installed in July. The installers totally destroyed the wall because they were forced to re route an electrical wire that ran underneath the window that use to be there. Neil is having to install all new Sheetrock to fix the mess they made. The fun never stops.

Day Two Hundred Eighty Two

Random TGIF Pics

This is what the sky over my house looked like around eleven o'clock this morning. It took a turn after lunch and by two thirty was pouring rain. Again.

Neil, Holly, Elijah and I went to Panda Garden for lunch. This was in my fortune cookie. I should be receiving my Nobel Peace Prize any moment now. No? Stranger things have happened ...

Does anyone know what in the world this is? After lunch, Holly was driving around, trying to lull Elijah to sleep for an afternoon nap, and we saw this thing laying in the road. At first we thought it was a giant walnut or a knitter had lost her ball of yarn. On our way back, Holly's curiosity got the best of her. She pulled over and snatched it off the road. It was heavy and kind of sticky and had this white stuff oozing out of the stem area. There was a tree on the side of the road that had these things growing on it. Weird. Not to mention this activity jarred Elijah out of his dream state. He never did take a nap. Holly took it home and was going to let Shelby dissect it to see what it's like on the inside. I hope they take pictures.
