Day Three Hundred Forty One

Postcard From The Past

I'm posting this one because I didn't take any pictures today. And it's just so darned cute. Grand son Elijah on this date, three years ago. He wasn't quite four months old, all bundled up in his Snoopy snow suit that Uncle Kerry gave him, if I remember correctly. He spent the day at my house today. Can't believe I didn't take any pictures. Shame on Granny. I'll do better tomorrow.

Day Three Hundred Forty

Rob Mabry Memorial Jam II

My cousin Tony has now put together two memorial concerts in honor of my late brother, Rob Mabry, whose passion for music and drumming drew him together with other talented musicians from the time he was a teenager until his sudden passing in May, 2008. Tony pulled together many of the musicians Rob played with in various bands over the years, and last night they put on a second concert in Rob's memory. The first Rob Jam (as we've come to call it) took place a little over a year ago. A friend of my sister Jane took this picture last night, and I snatched it off Facebook to share here. I also copied the names she listed of people in this picture because I don't know the names of a lot of them, and I don't think they're all listed here. Thank you, Tony, for a great tribute! Needless to say, we all love Rob and miss him terribly.

Day Three Hundred Thirty Nine

Saturday

Woke up to snow on the ground this morning.

This was Eddie Kitty's first snow. He didn't seem to mind it. The sun came out, and the snow melted quickly, but the temperature stayed in the thirties.

We hung out at Poet's coffee shop this afternoon, drank hot chocolate and chai (haven't figured out exactly what that is yet but Kelly and Sarah said it was good), played Apples To Apples, laughed and talked and got loud and had a blast as usual. From left around the table: Sarah Foy, Jane Foy, Julia Foy, Shelby Myers and Kelly Kimbrough. Good times on a cold day in December.

Day Three Hundred Thirty Eight

Happy 95th Birthday, Aunt Joy Brown!

About half the town of Gainesboro, Tennessee, and assorted relatives from near and far gathered at Helen's Restaurant to celebrate my Aunt Joy Brown's 95th birthday. Aunt Joy is a special lady and deserves these yearly accolades, which have turned into a major event. In this picture from left are Hamp Mabry (my mom and Joy's younger sister--Mom is 88), Aunt Joy, and their cousin, Glenn Ragland (who is nearing 90 herself). Glenn and family traveled all the way from Memphis today to surprise Aunt Joy on her special day.

After the party, relatives gathered at Aunt Joy's house to visit, tell stories, laugh, and make lots of noise. Here are sisters Joy Brown and Hamp Mabry.

These two cousins finally got to meet. They were born a day apart in August, 2006. On the left is Landon Brown, who lives in Texas, and Elijah Myers. They hit it off big time and had the best time playing together.

The family group shot. From top left: Kathy Brown, Lowell Brown, Don Foy, Jane Foy, Kay Ranft, Ann Sissom, Tom Brown, Neil Ranft & Terry Sissom. Middle row from left: Mike Brown, Joy Brown, Landon Brown, Hamp Mabry, Shelby Myers, Julia Foy & Elijah Myers. Front row from left: Ken Mabry, Kelly Kimbrough, Holly Myers & Tony Sircy. This bunch always has a great time when we manage to get together, which isn't as often as we'd like any more. Happy birthday, Aunt Joy! Wishing you many more!

Day Three Hundred Thirty Seven

Please Don't Eat The Candles

My candy cane candles look good enough to eat--except maybe for the wicks sticking out the ends. They sort of look like fancy firecrackers. It's s-l-o-w-l-y starting to look like Christmas around here.
