Day Thirty Seven 2012

I did not err; there does a sable cloud
Turn forth her silver lining on the night,
And casts a gleam over this tufted grove.
~John Milton coined the phrase 'silver lining' in Comus: A Mask Presented at Ludlow Castle, 1634

Day Thirty Six 2012

Grandson Knox watched his first Super Bowl tonight. Well, it did hold his attention for a few seconds.
Congrats to son in law Kerry, whose New York Giants beat the Patriots and won the Super Bowl in what turned out to be one of the more exciting finishes in this over-hyped game. It was nice to have a team to root for this time. And it's always fun to watch the underdog win.

Day Thirty Four 2012

On February 3, 1953, my dear mom, Hamp Mabry, turned me loose in this world, and I thank her for that, because so far it's been a most interesting and joyful and fruitful journey. This evening during my birthday party, my brother in law Don Foy did the math, and so graciously pointed out to me that as I complete my 59th trip around the Sun, I have traveled 1.50, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000 miles. I don't know if a name can be put to this number. All I know is that it's a lot of miles, and God has blessed me richly every mile of the way, and I thank Him for that. Thanks so much to my family who made my birthday so much fun as they always do each year. So generous with gifts and best of all so generous with love and affection and that's what makes all those miles worth while. Looking forward to the rest of the trip! Day Thirty Three 2012

Me and my Wal-Mart shopping cart saw our shadows today. I'm not sure what this could possibly mean in the grand scheme of things, weather-wise, other than the fact that today was yet another spring-like day with a ton of sunshine and blue sky, no clouds, with no sign of winter in sight. Six more weeks of....what? Spring-like weather? And then what? Wonder what spring has in store for us.
