Day Two Hundred Seventy 2012

"In the garden, Autumn is, indeed the crowning glory of the year, bringing us the fruition of months of thought and care and toil.
And at no season, safe perhaps in Daffodil time, do we get such superb colour effects as from August to November." - Rose G. Kingsley, The Autumn Garden, 1905

Day Two Hundred Sixty Nine 2012

0925021801
Grandson Elijah’s T Ball team played in the Fall Ball Tournament this evening. His team won 26-12. They did an outstanding job, batting and fielding. The losing team was awarded medals while the winning team watched and applauded for them. Afterward, Elijah said, “But we won! You mean we have to lose to get a medal?” He could not understand it. It doesn’t make any sense, even to a six year old. Of course, his team gets to play again in the tournament. If they lose, they will get a medal. For showing up maybe? We wouldn’t want any hurt feelings. Only in America, folks. I’ll get off my soapbox now.

Grandson Elijah played his last Fall Ball T Ball game this evening. His fielding is better each game he plays. A lot of these kids have improved over the past few weeks. Tomorrow evening, the tournament begins. They will be keeping score.

Day Two Hundred Sixty Seven 2012

0923021754
Today is Sunday, the first day of the week. Did you “go to church”? Many people today understand the church as a building. This is not a biblical understanding of the church. The word “church” comes from the Greek word ekklesia which is defined as “an assembly” or “called-out ones.” The root meaning of “church” is not that of a building, but of people. The church is the body of Christ, of which He is the head. Ephesians 1:22-23 says, “And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.” The body of Christ is made up of all believers in Jesus Christ from the day of Pentecost (Acts chapter 2) until Christ’s return.  So the church is not a building or a denomination. According to the Bible, the church is the body of Christ—all those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ for salvation (Acts 2:38).

Day Two Hundred Sixty Six 2012

My sister Ann and her husband Terry always host an annual Labor Day family get together at their house. This year, we got rained out, so they moved it to this afternoon and rented a huge shelter at the beautiful park just down the hill from their house, just in case the rains came again. But we couldn’t have asked for a more gorgeous day, and what a way to kick off the first day of Fall than with family and yummy food!
family get together

My sister in law Cynthia snapped this one of us enjoying BBQ, Ann’s killer potato salad, Don’s killer cole slaw, and Terry’s killer baked beans. I took a similar picture and sorry to exclude you, Cyn, but your shot was much better than mine.IMG_0803
After dark, we headed back to Ann and Terry’s for a huge bonfire.IMG_0807
This fire was so big and hot you had to have a ten foot pole to roast a marshmallow! It sure did knock back the evening chill.

Thanks, again, Ann and Terry, for hosting this good time shindig! This is my favorite time of year, and getting to spend times like these with my family is always a blessing to me.
