Day One Hundred Fifty Six 2013

IMG_0037
The Mulberry tree in my back yard is loaded with ripening berries. They are so sweet. The grandkids [and kids] love them. One of these days, I’m going to make a pie with them. Better yet, a cobbler. [They're good for you, too.]

Day One Hundred Thirty One 2012

RANDOM

The birds have discovered the mulberries, which make for a very colorful mess (literally) on the windshield of my car.

The baby birds have flown the nest and are everywhere. They, too, know a good mulberry when they see one.

What an awesome day! Felt a bit like fall which is always OK with me.

And last but never least, Grandson Elijah played T Ball this evening. His team, the Diamondbacks, got beat by the Reds 17~11. They played well, though, and Elijah did some great fielding. They turned an eleven point lead into a six point lead. Not too shabby.

Day One Hundred Forty Four 2011

Looks like we'll have another bumper crop of mulberries. The tree is loaded with them, and they're already ripe and juicy, which means several weeks of purple bird poop on the windshield of the car and truck, not to mention the purple footprints tracking across the kitchen floor. The kids love to pick them and eat them (Elijah sampled one this afternoon) so I guess the temporary mess is all worthwhile. Click on the title of this post for a link to info about these berries. (Thanks, Ann!)

Day One Hundred Forty Five

Berry Pickin' (And Eatin') Time!

Our Mulberry tree in the back yard has once again sprouted a bumper crop of berries, already ripe for the picking.

Grand son Elijah and grand daughter Shelby love picking the berries off the tree. Their mom (daughter Holly) did, too, when she was about Shelby's age.

Shelby is tall enough this year to easily reach the berries.

Elijah can reach some of the lower ones, but I pull the branch down so he can get to them and pick his own. He only wants the black/deep purple ones. No reddish ones, please. They're still too tart.

Enjoying the harvest! They even picked some to share with their mom and dad. Then it was off to wash up and brush their teeth. The berries will be around for about a month. One of these days, I'm going to have to try to make a Mulberry pie. Yum!

Day One Hundred Sixty Eight

Every Spring, the Mulberry tree in our backyard sprouts...well....Mulberries. They ripen into these big fat juicy things that are very tasty. Daughter Holly used to pick and eat them off the tree when she was little. The grand kids have recently discovered them, too. We've had a bumper crop the past two years. The only draw back is when they start to drop off the tree and make a big mushy purple mess in the yard and on the deck. And speaking of purple mess, the birds love them. The squirrels feast on them, too. The berries are usually done by the end of June. And it's really the only decent shade tree we have in the back yard, which makes it worth the mess. I guess.
