Day Two Hundred Forty Seven 2012
LABOR DAY
No picnic for us today. All Neil and I did was work around the house. He spent his Lowe’s gift cards and bought this nifty chain saw attachment for his weed eater.
And this is what he did with it. There were piles of tree and bush limbs laying all over the yard when he finished. Well, finished for today. Nothing like a new toy.
It’s Monday which is always laundry day around here. I did that plus wash windows, starting with the ones in all the doors—inside and outside = 138 panes of glass. I haven’t even begun to clean the regular windows yet. Labor Day, indeed.
After supper, we landed in Dogwood Park with our camp chairs to soak up some local culture and cool breezes and listened to the Cookeville Community Band play their last concert of the season.
This is the first time we’ve attended one of their concerts. I told Neil I can’t believe we’ve never been. They played marches, swing tunes, New Orleans jazz, and the concert ended with Rocky Top, a Tennessee fan favorite. Good times.
Happy Labor Day, America!

Labor Day Weekend Family Get Together At The Sissom's
Kelly's turtle brownies. Yum!
Pork BBQ, Chris's hash brown casserole, Don's cole slaw, Ann's potato salad, and Terry's baked beans made a totally delicious meal. FYI: the baked beans had a pound and a half of bacon in them. That's the truth, folks.
Cousins Ashley, Shelby, Elijah, Julia and Ethan hanging out on the hammock. They all had a great time together.
Terry lit the fire in the fire pit and out came the marshmallows for roasting and toasting.
Terry, Neil and Jerry chillin'. Neil landed four in a row in a corn hole game. Way cool. Wish I'd got some action shots.
Julia, Shaun and Terry hanging out around the fire pit.
We couldn't have asked for nicer weather today. Not a cloud in the deep blue sky, lots of sunshine and a chill in the air. Jerry and Elijah warm up at the fire pit. The night air got really chilly.
Big hugs for Ann and Terry from Elijah. He had a great time.
Ken, Evan and could that possibly be me?! having a little fireside chat.
Jane, Kelly, pup dog Charlie, Sarah and Elijah, who was giving out more goodbye hugs.
Hard to believe another Labor Day Weekend get together has already come and gone. Apologies for not getting everyone in pictures--I ended up with a bunch of blurry ones for some reason. Not to mention that I didn't want to get up again once I'd settled in front of the fire. Too cozy. Thanks to sister Ann and brother in law Terry for once again hosting a most excellent family get together. Everything was fabulous as always and the time we spend together always flies by way too fast. I always thank God for blessing me with such a wonderful family. Love you all!
The gang's all here--except Don and Sarah who arrived after the group shot. Around the table from left: Kerry Kimbrough, Kelly Kimbrough, Shelby Myers, Julia Foy, Ann Sissom, Terry Sissom, Shaun Scantland, Evan Mabry, Chris Mabry, Jerry Myers, Holly Myers (holding up new pup Charlie) Ken Mabry, Neil Ranft, Ashley Mabry, Elijah Myers (in there somewhere) Jane Foy, and Ethan Mabry. And Jessica Cat who thought Charlie Pup looked like a tasty morsel.

Ethan and Chris roast some 'mallows (we call them mellows). Ken is chillin' after that big meal.

Day Two Hundred Forty Nine
Annual Family Labor Day Blow Out At The Sissom's
Big smiles from nieces Julia and Sarah, nephew Alex, sister Jane and Angel Button.
Big brother Ken and hubby Neil all happy in their bouncy chairs.
Sister Ann, nephew Chris (I can tell that's him because of the Blackberry that never leaves his hand), Bev Ligon and brother in law Terry, who keeps us laughing with funny stories.
Brother in law Don, niece Evan and her sweetie Shawn.
Alex, daughters Kelly and Holly, Don and niece Kendra shootin the breeze.
The only group shot I managed to get and even then not everyone was in it. Around the table from the left: Kendra Shelton, Cynthia Mabry, Evan Mabry, Ken Mabry, Ann Sissom, Chris Mabry, Shawn Scantland, Terry Sissom, Julia Foy, Jerry Myers, Don Foy, Jane Foy, Neil Ranft, Holly Myers, and Kelly Kimbrough. We enjoyed a delicious meal of BBQ, Ann's potato salad, Don's cole slaw, Holly's deviled eggs, Terry's baked beans, cantaloupe, and the Sissom's home grown cherry tomatoes. Not to mention to die for desserts like Jane's peanut butter fudge and pumpkin cheese cake.
Ann shows grand daughter Shelby, Julia, and grand son Elijah how to maneuver on the hammock.
Don, Shawn, Alex, Chris, Jerry and Neil test their skills at corn hole.
Ann and Terry's awesome fire pit. In fact, their whole yard is pretty awesome because they've worked so hard on it this Summer and it shows in every detail. It's a piece of heaven in their back yard.
Of course, the fire pit was a magnet for marshmallow roasters like Shelby and Elijah with a little help from Ann.
Elijah got a big kick out of roasting his marshmallows but had zero interest in actually eating them. Ann didn't let them go to waste.
Chris and Kelly hang out on the swing by the fire pit and check out what's happening in the world on Chris's new obsession: The Blackberry!
Jane, Terry, Ann and Cyn chillin around the fire.
The ladies try their hand at corn hole. Terry set up a spotlight so they could see where to toss their corn bags in the hole. No easy target. Kelly pitches while Holly, Shelby and Julia wait to see where it's going to land.
Niece Julia made Labor Day greeting cards for everyone and each one was unique. This one is mine. Thanks, Julia!
