40
All we know is that the time went by fast, one day at a time, and here we are, 40 years! later, grayer, fatter, with lots of wrinkles, two awesome daughters and sons in law and three lovable grandkids, but still basically the same people we were on that rainy day when we said “I do.” And we did. And we still do. If I had to do it all over again, I would. Happy 40th anniversary to my better half, who wore to church this morning the same bow tie he wore to our wedding all those days ago. He said it was the only part of his suit that still fit him. God has blessed us richly, and I’m certain will continue to do so in the days to come.
To keep the fire burning brightly there's one easy rule: Keep the two logs together, near enough to keep each other warm and far enough apart - about a finger's breadth - for breathing room. Good fire, good marriage, same rule.

Day Seven 2013
Grandson Elijah and I stopped along the path to the house after school this afternoon long enough to snap a gratuitous self-shadow-portrait. The sky was blue and the sun was bright, stretching our shadows out on what’s left of the grass in the back yard. Not as cold today—another major plus for any winter day, but especially for a winter Monday. The year is already one week old.

Day Two Hundred Forty Seven 2012
LABOR DAY
No picnic for us today. All Neil and I did was work around the house. He spent his Lowe’s gift cards and bought this nifty chain saw attachment for his weed eater.
And this is what he did with it. There were piles of tree and bush limbs laying all over the yard when he finished. Well, finished for today. Nothing like a new toy.
It’s Monday which is always laundry day around here. I did that plus wash windows, starting with the ones in all the doors—inside and outside = 138 panes of glass. I haven’t even begun to clean the regular windows yet. Labor Day, indeed.
After supper, we landed in Dogwood Park with our camp chairs to soak up some local culture and cool breezes and listened to the Cookeville Community Band play their last concert of the season.
This is the first time we’ve attended one of their concerts. I told Neil I can’t believe we’ve never been. They played marches, swing tunes, New Orleans jazz, and the concert ended with Rocky Top, a Tennessee fan favorite. Good times.
Happy Labor Day, America!

Day One Hundred Fifty One
A gorgeous Sunday, high temp, low humidity, deep blue sky, nice breeze. What more could we ask for? Ice cream! We decided to sit outside and eat. Kelly got this tiny cup of cheesecake mixed with strawberries and graham crackers. I got a huge cup of the same. Killer stuff! Neil had white chocolate with sprinkles of all things. He can do chocolate as long as it doesn't look like chocolate I guess. Good times, great calories!

Day Seventy Six
Couldn't resist posting more than one picture today. It's Spring Break for schools here. We all descended upon our mom's residence at the assisted living home where she lives and had a good time together. The top picture is my brother Ken, my sisters Ann and Jane, Jane's daughters Sarah and Julia, and my grand kiddos Shelby and Elijah hanging out in our mom's room. She recently moved to this new room, so we hung her pictures and arranged stuff on her new cork board.
The middle picture is Ann, Sarah, Julia, Shelby and Elijah soaking up the sunshine down by the pond where they threw some rocks in the water and made wreaths for our hair from the willow tree branches.
The bottom picture is Jane and Mom, also soaking up that sunshine and watching the kids play (that includes Ann!) and the geese diving for good eats in the pond.
We had a good afternoon together. What more can we ask for? Life is good!
