I’ll Fly Away
I heard the honking overhead from our backyard this afternoon and stood there in the cold, watching them because they’re fun to watch. This flock of Canadian geese flew back and forth and around in circles, I suppose waiting for a leader to emerge. They finally formed a clumsy V and flew away, heading south. Seems a little late in the year to be migrating to warmer climes, however, it does sound like a smart idea on a day like today. Better late than never.

Day Twenty Seven 2011
I thought I'd share another birds in flight pic with you that I took yesterday--this one in black and white. I caught the bird on the left as his talons were latching onto the feeder. Lucky shot, I must say.

Wishing my daughter Holly and her husband Jerry a very Happy 10th Anniversary today!! What an awesome twosome you are!! Love you both!!

Day Forty Seven
When Pigs Fly
They don't care who they land on as long as they get a place at the table.
Talk about Kung Fu fighting! This Starling wasn't about to give up his peanut butter. He went into Ninja mode.
And he won. The other Starling was clearly intimidated and decided that maybe he should wait his turn for a bite. Talk about when pigs fly! This was the biggest bunch of selfish winged pigs I've ever seen. They finished off every last morsel of peanut butter. I'm sure they'll be back for more. The restaurant is always open, and we don't discriminate. Starlings gotta eat, too.
A whole herd of Starlings discovered the peanut butter feeder yesterday and returned this morning for a breakfast feast.

Day Forty One
Picture Postcards From A Snow Day
Daughter Kelly, grand son Elijah and grand daughter Shelby amused themselves buying, selling and feeding the virtual fish in Fishville on Facebook.
This pretty red headed woodpecker enjoyed peanut butter for breakfast.
Birds in flight around the feeder. Kelly took this picture.
More birds in flight--thanks for the great shots, Kelly!
Grand daughter Shelby, sister Jane, grand son Elijah, niece Julia, niece Sarah and daughter Kelly and I enjoyed some time together at Poet's On The Square--a fun place to hang out, play Apples To Apples, talk and giggle, and slurp down some tasty coffee or smoothies (or in Elijah's case: Fruit Loops and a cup of milk--he amused himself with the Trivial Pursuit pie wagon game pieces).
The tiny snowman on a table outside Poet's sported rocks for buttons and eyes and a Coke bottle cap and he was really cute, but Elijah could not resist picking him up. Alas, the snowman fell over and lost his head and cap and a few of his rocks. We put him back together again. But I don't think he'll ever be the same. Good times. Great snow day.
Another snow day--cold and windy but pretty to watch the big flakes falling.

Day Twenty
Winging It
I have to snap a lot of pictures just to--hopefully--end up with one that's pretty cool. Birds are amazing little creatures and difficult to capture in flight because one second they're there and the next they're gone. They move quicker than my rapid fire snapshots. Thought I'd share this one with you from a day or two ago, as I didn't even pick up my camera today. Sometimes you just have to wing it.

Day Two
Snow Birds
We stopped feeding the birds a long time ago when it was clear we were only luring them into our yard for the cat to kill. But Neil recently bought a big bag of Sunflower seed and a new bird feeder and decided to start feeding them again this Winter. No casualties, so far. And it's been fun watching them on the feeder. Fun taking pictures of them, too.
