Day One Hundred Seventy Seven 2013

0626031516
Granddaughter Shelby and grandson Elijah spent the day with me today. We finally took a break from veg'ing out and headed to one of our favorite sweet shops for yummy doughnuts. This may have been the highlight of our whole day. It’s Summer, so we’re allowed.

Day One Hundred Forty Three 2013

IMG_1436
School is out. The grandpeeps Elijah and Shelby were hanging with me today. This morning they played with their iPad and Nintendo 3DS. Right before lunch, they flipped on the TV and ended up on Animal Planet, watching ‘Gator Boys’, which I’d never seen. As you might guess, it’s a ‘reality’ show where some guys and a couple of girls hunt and capture alligators and remove them from somebody’s backyard swamp or swimming pool or garage or wherever [even one small one from a restaurant fountain]. They take them to an alligator sanctuary so the gators can live in joy and love and peace and harmony with other gators. Not a bad deal, actually. And that’s what we did literally the whole day ~ watch ‘Gator Boys’, one right after the other. Apparently, it’s Monster Week on Animal Planet. We enjoyed being slugs all day, but I have to admit, I’m a little burned out on gators right now.

Day One Hundred Forty One 2013

SCHOOL’S OUT!
IMG_9851
I am crazy proud of these two. Grandson Elijah has all A’s for the school year. Shelby has all A’s for the school year, minus one. Math tripped her up a bit this year, but that’s OK. When I was their ages, I would have been thrilled with these grades. They’ll be moving on up come the end of July ~ Shelby to 7th grade and Elijah to 2nd grade. Oh, how time flies! But for now, school’s out for summer. Time to relax and have some fun and look forward to that beach trip coming at them in June. So proud of you both! Love you!

Day One Hundred Thirty Five 2013

IMG_9831
My grandpeeps, Shelby and Elijah, gave this to me for Mother’s Day. They painted their feet and stamped this big clay pot, making pretty butterflies. Isn’t it great? I love it. I potted a couple of red flowering plants today ~Verbena~ which  possess the virtues of heat tolerance and an extremely long bloom season. Plus, I’m hoping the red will attract a Hummingbird or two.

My mother, Hampton Gailbreath Mabry, passed away exactly two weeks before Mother’s Day last year. I miss her and would love to have the opportunity to wish her a happy Mother’s Day and tell her how much I love her.
Happy Mother’s Day to all of you who are called Mother, Mom, Mama, Mommy, or Ma. It’s the sweetest name on earth!

Day Three Hundred Fifty Five 2012

IMG_7958
Grandpeeps Shelby and Elijah are out of school for Christmas vacation (winter break for the politically correct). They were here today, amusing themselves watching America’s Funniest Home Videos, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Captain America on Netflix. Shelby was productive and made colorful braided bracelets out of embroidery floss for each holiday. So far, she’s made ten. They’re very pretty.

I was productive, too, and made some cranberry white chocolate chip oatmeal cookies. From scratch. They turned out pretty tasty. Blustery weather here all day—rain and wind and now it’s cold. The grandpeeps are hoping to see some snow. The ground is too warm for it to stick if it did snow, but I wouldn’t mind seeing a few snowflakes. (FYI: today is the last official day of Autumn, although people have been saying it's Winter since before turkey day)

Day Three Hundred Fifty 2012

IMG_7811
Christmas time is here
Happiness and cheer
Fun for all that children call
Their favorite time of year

Snowflakes in the air
Carols everywhere
Olden times and ancient rhymes
Of love and dreams to share

Sleigh bells in the air
Beauty everywhere
Yuletide by the fireside
And joyful memories there

Christmas time is here
We'll be drawing near
Oh, that we could always see
Such spirit through the year
Oh, that we could always see
Such spirit through the year...

PEEPS ON A TRAMPOLINE, PART 2

The grand peeps were back outside on the trampoline again this afternoon after school, busting some moves in the chilly air, which is better than sitting inside in front of the TV. At least this time I managed to grab my “real” camera and get some non-blurry shots. I cringe when they do their flips. I can’t help it. But it’s fun to watch them having fun.
Happy TGIF, y’all!

Grandpeeps Shelby and Elijah ventured outside after school this chilly afternoon and spent some time jumping, flipping, whirling, twirling, hand standing, and cartwheeling on the trampoline. My little cell phone camera couldn’t keep up with them.

Daughter Holly, grandson Knox, grandson Elijah, and grand daughter Shelby on the front porch swing this beautiful November afternoon. Knox thinks it’s great fun to ‘honk’ his cousin Elijah’s nose. And pull his hair. With Shelby’s encouragement, of course.

GRAND PEEPS Are Grand!

In keeping with the Halloween season, grand daughter Shelby’s 6th grade class studied Mexico’s Day of the Dead. They held a contest with the class voting on who was the most creative in coloring a Day of the Dead skull. Shelby won! She picked out this prize—a heart with a skull on it that says Besame which is ‘kiss me’ in Spanish. Way to go, Shelby!

Day One Hundred Forty Two 2012

School's Out For Summer! Today was the last day of school for Grandpeeps Shelby and Elijah. They are both smart kids, and each one had an amazing school year, making awesome grades and good friends. Elijah mastered Kindergarten and will move up to First Grade. Shelby was sad to see her Fifth Grade year come to an end, but she'll be in Sixth Grade when classes gear up again in late July. Enjoy the next eight weeks, kiddos, because it is going to fly by.
