Day Forty Three 2013

People don’t notice whether it’s winter or summer when they’re happy.
~Anton Chekhov

The winter sun made the sky look like it had a big hole in it today.

Day Three Hundred Twenty Four 2012

The sun shines and warms and lights us and we have no curiosity to know why this is so; but we ask the reason of all evil, of pain, and hunger, and mosquitoes and silly people. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Day One Hundred Fourteen 2012

Monday at the carwash...then the birds came.....

You say PEE-o-nee, I say pee-O-nee. Just sayin'.....

Honeysuckle  (update: my hubby Neil, who planted this, says it is Jasmine...he thinks) It looks like honeysuckle to me. Which shows you how much I know about plants.

Oh Monday Monday how could you leave and not take me....

Day One Hundred Thirteen 2012

Hubby Neil and I went for a walk around the neighborhood this afternoon. I love this big old house that sits at the end of our street. Don't tell anybody, but I've coveted this house since I was seventeen years old. (And don't tell anybody this, but I haven't been seventeen for over forty years now.)

Neil and I always seem to pick the coldest, most blustery days for our walks. But that's OK. It felt great to be outside for awhile in the fresh air.

The Irises finally bloomed along this old rock wall. I see Irises everywhere lately. Ours did not bloom this year for some reason.

This little stretch of country backroad is actually only one street over from our street.

We do something good for us, and then end up at the DQ for an ice cream cone. So bad but so good! Hope your Sunday afternoon was delicious.

Day Three Hundred Forty Two 2011

"That's no December sky!
Surely 'tis June
Holds now her state on high
Queen of the noon.

Only the tree-tops bare
Crowning the hill,
Clear-cut in perfect air,
Warn us that still

Winter, the aged chief,
Mighty in power,
Exiles the tender leaf,
Exiles the flower."
- Robert Fuller Murray (1863-1894), A December Day

Day One Hundred Seventy Four 2011

The sky was undecided today. Loved seeing blue for a change. No rain here. Yet. There was a tornado warning about 15 miles east of our back yard this evening. The sirens were blaring as the sun was shining. Go figure. Hope nothing came of it.

Day Seventy Seven 2011

Winter says goodbye, and I say good riddance! The last day of winter offered up almost 80 degree temperatures and a breathtaking sunset that my little cell phone camera just could not do justice. I wish I had been on some vista at this moment, high above all the clutter of this town which is so hard to escape, especially when you're trying to take a picture of a beautiful sky. I hope you can see the silver lining. So long, Winter! Happy TGIF, y'all!
P.S.~~I'm getting ahead of myself~~today is the NEXT to last day of winter and tomorrow will be winter's last hurrah. Sunday is first day of Spring! I guess I'm anxious to get rid of winter and so ready for a more colorful world :)
