Day Two Hundred Thirty Two 2010

I Heart Friday!

Grand daughter Shelby snacking on a Gummi Worm after school today. She struggled to my house with her loaded backpack (on the couch). Said her shoulders hurt. We put the backpack on the scales. It weighed 11 pounds. That's crazy.

I was craving something chocolate and the only thing in the kitchen was a bottle of chocolate milk. It was cold and pretty tasty and kind of...thick. Then, glutton for punishment that I am, I ate a couple of Gummi Worms. After a sudden "sick" moment later, I checked the expiration date on the chocolate milk. It died two weeks ago. Ack!

Pushing those glasses up on her nose again. She gets new ones soon. She says they're 'awesome'.

Daughter Kelly came in time for supper. Her fave spot is Ocha Deli beside TTU. Hey, look, it's open! Yum!

Afternoon shadows stretched along West Side where we headed to Cream City (more gluttony!).

West Side around the depot has developed into a cool place over the past few years. Lots of artsy shops and restaurants.

I love the name of this shop that sells tie dyed clothing and bags and such. I'm going to have to browse in here sometime.

All sorts of tasty frozen treats to be had at Cream City.

Double scoop (which I did not need but that's so beside the point) of Mint Tracks ice cream in a waffle cone. The chunks of chocolate are heavenly. (If I'd known we were coming here, I wouldn't have drunk that dead bottle of chocolate milk.....)

All aboard! Kelly says she'd love to go on a train ride sometime. I said maybe one that has a dining car....

And the sun slowly sets on our TGIF. Hope yours had an unexpected treat or two. Wishing everyone a marvelous weekend!

Day Two Hundred Thirty One 2010

Blue Is Back

The view this afternoon from K-Mart parking lot looking west. Blue skies and puffy white clouds prevailed after the flooding rains yesterday. The rain finally moved on, leaving a mess in its wake here in middle Tennessee. I am fortunate to live on high ground here in our hilly little town, but lots of folks couldn't escape the rushing water. The kids and teachers gave up a snow day because many roads are impassable. The clean up is going to take some time.

I totally missed wishing my sweet son-in-law, Kerry Kimbrough, a happy 33rd birthday yesterday. He's married to daughter Kelly. Happy belated Birthday, Kerry Berry! Ma and Pa Ranft love you much and wish you all the best in the coming year!

Day Two Hundred Thirty 2010

Wet Wednesday And Random Stuff

"It's clobberin' time!" The Thing says so. He was the toy in Grandson Elijah's happy meal at Mickey D's at lunch today. Have you ever noticed how angry most 'super heroes' are? I guess I'd be angry too if my clothes got all torn up every time I turned into a super hero.

Um....didn't we do this yesterday? He wanted an ice cream cone with sprinkles but opted for chocolate dipped instead. Either way, it's a win-win deal. The Thing isn't happy about it, though.

It rained so much here today that all the Nashville network affiliates sent news crews to our not so fair but flooded town to interview people and take pictures of the devastation. I didn't get any pictures of that, but I did get this raindrop/spiderweb art on my back porch. Can you say wet? Schools are closed on Thursday. We sure didn't need the flood, but I'm liking the cooler temperatures. Hope you are safe and dry where you are right now.

Day Two Hundred Twenty Nine 2010

Elijah Is Four!

Finally 4! Grandson Elijah celebrates his fourth birthday today, and not a minute too soon! He's been looking forward to this day for months.

His grandpa and I took him and sister Shelby to Cream City Ice Cream for a celebration ice cream cone.

He chose Superman and Rainbow Sherbet--the two most colorful flavors of ice cream in the freezer--and put them side by side in a dish. Shelby always goes for the chocolate.

I'm four years old!! And life is good. He woke up this morning to find a new play set in his backyard. It was Water Day at his school, so he got to play in the water and use his new Scooby Doo beach towel (courtesy of Granny). His mom baked cupcakes, and his class had a birthday party in his honor. They sang the birthday song and he blew out his candles.

He's growing up so fast!
Hard to believe he was ever this small.
And sister Shelby didn't quite know what to think of him. Hard to believe ....

... they'd become the good buddies they are today. Happy 4th Birthday, Elijah! Granny and Grandpa love you very much and hope all your birthday wishes come true!

Day Two Hundred Twenty Eight 2010

The Hunter And The Hunted

Buddy Cat may be getting old, but apparently he's still quick enough to capture a bunny rabbit and think nothing of it. He was very proud of his catch and presented it to me in true cat fashion--dropping it at my doorstep. You shouldn't have, Buddy. Really.
