It is no use to grumble and complain; It's just as cheap and easy to rejoice; When God sorts out the weather and sends rain - Why, rain's my choice.
~James Whitcomb Riley
What a beautiful sight after weeks without rain! Let’s give God the glory!

Splish Splash! Grandson Knox enjoyed some pool time this afternoon in the hundred degree heat. He had the best time kicking and splashing and trying to slide over the side of the pool. Too bad there wasn’t room for the rest of us.
Happy TGIF, everyone!

Day One Hundred Eighty Seven 2012

My Mae Pearl’s vanilla bean frozen yogurt would have been patriotic if only I had chosen blueberries instead of blackberries. In the end, the flavors are what mattered. It was totally delicious and refreshing on a hot summer day.

What a fabulous Fourth! My family celebrated America’s birthday with our annual backyard get together. We enjoyed an awesome meal, homemade ice cream, some corn hole competition, and in spite of drought conditions, managed a brief fireworks display without setting the world on fire. I love my family and I love this country and I thank God every day that I get to live in the land of the free! Happy birthday, America!

Day One Hundred Eighty Four 2012

IMG_5675
The wind blew, the dark clouds rolled in, lightning streaked the sky, thunder rumbled, and we just knew this was it—rain was sure to fall on our parched yard.
IMG_5671
And it did rain. Sort of. We’ll take whatever we can get and keep the faith that it will come again another day.

Day One Hundred Eighty Three 2012

Sister Jane, niece Sarah, niece Julia, daughter Kelly, grandson Knox and I enjoyed some time together at Poet’s On The Square coffeehouse this afternoon and cooled off with some tasty frozen drinks.

Knox tried on Sarah’s sunglasses for size. Perfect fit! Way cool time at Poet’s.

Day One Hundred Eighty Two 2012

IT WAS SO HOT…..
IMG_5645
I tried to fry an egg on the street this afternoon (didn’t want to have to clean up the sidewalk where people walk—except that it was so hot, nobody was outside walking). Our local time and temperature channel said it was 105 degrees. You’d think that was hot enough to fry an egg on asphalt.
IMG_5662
Nope! The egg white never did cook and the yellow popped and eventually dried up in the heat. So, no, it was not “hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk”—or on the street. Still, not a good day for anyone to be outside.

Day One Hundred Seventy Nine 2012

Heat, ma'am! it was so dreadful here, that I found there was nothing left for it but to take off my flesh and sit in my bones. ~Sydney Smith, Lady Holland's Memoir

When I walk across my back yard, the grass crunches beneath my flip flops. Too hot to be outside. No rain in sight. And Summer just got started.

Day One Hundred Seventy Eight 2012

Grandson Knox checking out the menu for supper at the new meat-n-three restaurant in our town—Family Traditions Café. We’ve been a couple of times before and loved the food. This time we took Knox’s daddy, Kerry. He loved it, too.

Knox couldn’t decide what to order, so he ate the menu.

Day One Hundred Seventy Seven 2012

Amazingly, I did not take any pictures today. So here is a blast from the past (almost) on this date, five years ago~~water baby granddaughter Shelby was almost six years old at the time. We sure could have used that (long gone) swimming pool today!

“I want your camera—or whatever that thing is you keep sticking in my face!” says grandson Knox, who is always ready to grab anything within his reach and, of course, stick it in his mouth.

Day One Hundred Seventy Five 2012

0623021442
Peeps grand daughter Shelby, daughter Holly, grandson Elijah, hubby Neil, grandson Knox, daughter Kelly and I enjoyed a delicious lunch at a new ‘meat and three’ restaurant called Family Traditions Cafe (a former D.Q. here in town~luckily we still have one other D.Q.). We all went in a little skeptical, but the food lived up to the ‘home cooking’ advertisement. And the prices were very reasonable. We cleaned our plates. (The fried corn was especially amazing) I highly recommend it.
