Day Two Hundred Twenty 2013

So I just did me some talkin' to the sun
And I said I didn't like the way he got things done
Sleepin' on the job
Those raindrops are falling on my head, they keep falling

~from the song ‘Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head' by Burt Bacharach, Hal David

I was officially tired of rain about a month ago. Sometimes it seems like it’s never going to stop ~ like the sun is never going to shine again, especially on days like today. This picture looks kind of like something I ran through Photoshop, but it’s just a snapshot of the water rushing around in my yard today. The raindrops made some bubbles which was kind of cool. Otherwise, it can stop now. Please. Stop.

Day Two Hundred Nineteen 2013

Lesson for the day: Never park your car beside a road that floods in a heavy downpour. That little red car is mine. I went to climb in after Neil and I had finished our subs and had waited out the heavy rain, never thinking that the car coming toward me on that street was going to drive through that flood and send a giant wave of water into me. If I hadn’t had my umbrella over me, I would have been drenched from head to toe.  I still got soaked from chest to Crocs. And was about to get soaked again, but the next car in line took pity on me and slowed down enough so that the wave wasn’t a tsunami. It's funny because we were sitting in a window booth, watching this road start to flood when I took this random picture, and I was thinking that anybody standing out there on the sidewalk would get drowned by the wave from a passing car. Well, duh! [Where's a surf board when you need one?]

"March bustles in on windy feet
And sweeps my doorstep and my street.
She washes and cleans with pounding rains,
Scrubbing the earth of winter stains.
She shakes the grime from carpet green
Till naught but fresh new blades are seen.
Then, house in order, all neat as a pin,
She ushers gentle springtime in."

Let the rain kiss you. Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops. Let the rain sing you a lullaby.

It's a good day for a nap.

Day Two Hundred Seventy Five 2012

You’ve heard that song It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year. For me, that means Autumn, and especially October. Hooray, it’s here!

"October's the month
When the smallest breeze
Gives us a shower
Of autumn leaves.
Bonfires and pumpkins,
Leaves sailing down -
October is red
And golden and brown."

In a silver chain
Of evening rain,
Unraveled from the tumbling main...

Heavy rain at my house this morning—a gully washer. Granddaughter Shelby and grandson Elijah saw me outside taking pictures of it and couldn’t resist playing in the mini-river rushing down the street after the downpour. Rain is such a beautiful and rare sight these days that we all stop what we’re doing and stare at it whenever it does start to fall. (And take pictures of it….)

It is no use to grumble and complain; It's just as cheap and easy to rejoice; When God sorts out the weather and sends rain - Why, rain's my choice.

What a beautiful sight after weeks without rain! Let’s give God the glory!

Day Sixty Two 2012

Random TGIF pictures on a day filled with bouts of sunshine and tornadoes in middle Tennessee. The kids got out of school at noon today ahead of the powerful storms that moved from the Gulf Coast up through Indiana. Lots of damage and loss of life in some places. We were spared at my house from anything extreme. Still thundering and raining here tonight at 7:30. I'll be relieved when the storms are gone and looking forward to a calm Saturday.

"There is music in the meadows, in the air --
Autumn is here;
Skies are gray, but hearts are mellow,
Leaves are crimson, brown, and yellow;
Pines are soughing, birches stir,
And the Gipsy trail is fresh beneath the fir.

There is rhythm in the woods, and in the fields,
Nature yields:
And the harvest voices crying,
Blend with Autumn zephyrs sighing;
Tone and color, frost and fire,
Wings the nocturne Nature plays upon her lyre."
- William Stanley Braithwaite, Lyric of Autumn

Day Two Hundred Eleven 2011

We had what you call a gully washer around lunch time today, not to mention some pretty fierce lightning and thunder, which was cracking over my head while I was out on my back porch, taking this picture of the rain water gushing out the gutter. The rain is welcome right now. I know others need it badly, too. Hope they get some soon.

Day One Hundred Seventeen 2011

Drenched!

Got rain? I do. And to spare. The storms over my house were not severe, but the flooding closed the schools early here. Truth be told, nobody should have been outside on a day like today. Except maybe ducks.

Day One Hundred Sixteen 2011

Got caught in the downpour at lunch time today. Wild spring weather all day--from sunny to torrential rainy and then back to sunny again with more storms and rain on the way for tonight and tomorrow. April showers bring May flowers. Unfortunately, they also tend to bring violent weather. Hope you aren't in the path.

Day One Hundred Seventy Five 2010

Relief

Finally, some much needed rain around lunch time today. It blew in and back out pretty quickly, but it dropped the temperature enough to feel a big difference from the oppressive almost 100 degree heat we've been enduring the past several days.

Another storm rolled across our area again late this afternoon, bringing storm clouds of Biblical proportions.

Turned out to be more bluster than substance, dropping the temperature even more. Hooray for that. This crazy heat makes me long for Autumn days. Wishing everyone a calm evening as we head into TGIF.
