Day One Hundred Forty Seven 2013

ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE!
IMG_1568
The hills are alive with the sound of music! Me and the Chief Blue Meanie in the Beatles LOVE gift shop this afternoon at the Mirage, drooling over all the cool Beatles stuff.
IMG_1574
This is why Neil and I came to Las Vegas ~ to see The Beatles LOVE Cirque du Soleil show. We enjoyed every second of it. The sights and sounds were so overwhelmingly awesome I wanted to weep. I think I did just a little. The music and the performances took my breath away. It was worth every single penny. I didn’t want it to end. I’d love to see it again.

We couldn’t take pictures during the performance. Snapped this on the way out. They were cleaning up the stage even as we were filing out. I can’t begin to describe to you how jaw dropping this show was.
0527032039
I think the house was full.

The guy in the picture looks like a young Mel Gibson. Didn’t even know he was in my picture til now.

This morning Neil and I went to old Las Vegas ~ Fremont Street. This is what it looked like in the daylight.
IMG_1588
We went back tonight after the LOVE show to see the light show and got treated to this spectacle and a mini Heart concert on the ceiling.
IMG_1591
It was WOW.
IMG_1607
Lots of half naked people running around here.
IMG_1630
This one’s for Knox. I can’t believe the number of families we’ve seen here. Lots of kids around. I guess there’s something for everyone. We had such a good time today. Have to get up way too early to catch a bus to the Grand Canyon in the morning. Fun stuff.

Sin City….I mean, Las Vegas….is hot, windy, crowded, congested, colorful and noisy~all on steroids. Neil and I rented a little car, which turned out to be a good thing, and spent the day driving and walking and exploring this alien place [to me anyway~I’ve never been anywhere]. We’ll be here for a few days, staying at the Mirage [our room is at the end of that long hallway in the last picture]. Looking forward to seeing the Cirque du Soleil Beatles Love show Monday evening and a trip to the Grand Canyon Tuesday. And maybe I’ll drop a quarter into a one-armed bandit before we leave.

Day One Hundred Forty Five 2013

Ever Lovin Saturday!
0525031855
Neil and I are spending the night with daughter Kelly, son in law Kerry and grandson Knox. Murfreesboro is all set up for their Memorial Day celebration. This field of flags was pretty breathtaking, as far as the eye could see.
0525031907
Knox loves this way cool playground/park near their home and was excited to be there.
0525031908
He was a blur coming down that slide so fast. He loves the slides.

Knox says ‘Happy Saturday, everybody!’ Summer has officially begun!

Day One Hundred Forty Three 2013

IMG_1436
School is out. The grandpeeps Elijah and Shelby were hanging with me today. This morning they played with their iPad and Nintendo 3DS. Right before lunch, they flipped on the TV and ended up on Animal Planet, watching ‘Gator Boys’, which I’d never seen. As you might guess, it’s a ‘reality’ show where some guys and a couple of girls hunt and capture alligators and remove them from somebody’s backyard swamp or swimming pool or garage or wherever [even one small one from a restaurant fountain]. They take them to an alligator sanctuary so the gators can live in joy and love and peace and harmony with other gators. Not a bad deal, actually. And that’s what we did literally the whole day ~ watch ‘Gator Boys’, one right after the other. Apparently, it’s Monster Week on Animal Planet. We enjoyed being slugs all day, but I have to admit, I’m a little burned out on gators right now.

RANDOMNESS

Tonight was senior night at Fazoli’s ~ a spaghetti or fettuccini dinner for 3 bucks. Woo Hoo!

Beautiful sky this evening ~ snapshots never do it justice.

Day One Hundred Forty One 2013

SCHOOL’S OUT!
IMG_9851
I am crazy proud of these two. Grandson Elijah has all A’s for the school year. Shelby has all A’s for the school year, minus one. Math tripped her up a bit this year, but that’s OK. When I was their ages, I would have been thrilled with these grades. They’ll be moving on up come the end of July ~ Shelby to 7th grade and Elijah to 2nd grade. Oh, how time flies! But for now, school’s out for summer. Time to relax and have some fun and look forward to that beach trip coming at them in June. So proud of you both! Love you!

Grandson Elijah in action during his T Ball game this evening. He and his team always play hard and play to win, but they lost this one, 23~12. Only two games left in the regular season.

Happy 52nd birthday, brother in law Don Foy! It was fun singing the birthday song four [or five] times. [You had to be there] And the German chocolate cake rocked! Good times.

All we know is that the time went by fast, one day at a time, and here we are, 40 years! later, grayer, fatter, with lots of wrinkles, two awesome daughters and sons in law and three lovable grandkids, but still basically the same people we were on that rainy day when we said “I do.” And we did. And we still do. If I had to do it all over again, I would. Happy 40th anniversary to my better half, who wore to church this morning the same bow tie he wore to our wedding all those days ago. He said it was the only part of his suit that still fit him. God has blessed us richly, and I’m certain will continue to do so in the days to come.

To keep the fire burning brightly there's one easy rule:  Keep the two logs together, near enough to keep each other warm and far enough apart - about a finger's breadth - for breathing room.  Good fire, good marriage, same rule.

5 years ago today, my little brother Rob passed away at the age of 44. He was a funny, lovable, loving trip of a person and I love him and miss him. RIP little bro.
