Day One Hundred Nine 2011

Grandpeeps and spiders, oh my! They didn't know they were sharing jump time on the trampoline with this big hairy spider. Jeepers creepers, peepers!

Day One Hundred Eight 2011

This bird was on the ledge outside the window by our table at El Tapatio restaurant this evening. We thought he was watching us eat and wanted some chips and salsa, but then we realized he couldn't see us. He was probably fascinated with his own reflection in the glass. Silly bird. He didn't know what he was missing.

Day One Hundred Four 2011

Grandpeeps Shelby and Elijah are wearing their Power Balance bracelets. I've got one, too. So does hubby Neil. You've probably seen them on TV--those poor souls at the mall who can't seem to stand up straight when somebody pushes them, and then they put one of these bracelets on and voila! Instant balance. Daughter Holly works with a guy who sells them, and she was wearing one a couple of weeks ago, so Neil and I decided we had to have one, too. Now son in law Jerry is selling them. Want one? He might give you a deal. Do they work? Well, duh! Of course they do.

Day One Hundred Three 2011

Grand daughter Shelby created this ice cream sundae yesterday after school: vanilla ice cream, whipped cream (the cool kind that squirts like crazy from a can), Hershey's dark chocolate syrup, and to top it off, dark chocolate M&M's. A work of art, no? Yes!

Day One Hundred Two 2011

The early bird gets the turkey. Son in law Jerry bagged a big tom turkey this morning and sent me this picture so I could make some prints and I thought I'd share it with you. Jerry is keeping the tail feather fan and I think the waddle, too. My daughter Holly says the two big turkey breasts are already in the freezer. Happy early thanksgiving. Nice shot, Jerry!

Day One Hundred 2011

Grandson Elijah played his first T Ball game of the season this afternoon. His team is the Muck Dogs. This year, they keep score. His team lost this one, but they'll do better next time!

Day Ninety Eight 2011

THANK GOD IT'S FRIDAY!

Elijah waited for his sister Shelby after school with two Kit Kat bars melting in his sweaty little hands--one for him, one for her. When he realized they were melting, he ran inside and put them in the freezer and came running back, all out of breath, so he could be there to greet her.

Did you jump for joy because it's Friday? Happy TGIF, everyone, and happy weekend!

Day Ninety Seven 2011

These purple irises are the prettiest thing in our yard right now. Hope they'll stick around for a while longer. It's a purple river of eye candy.

Day Ninety Four 2011

Grandson Elijah and I caught a little jump time on the trampoline this afternoon right before the storms came through.

"No more pictures!" He thinks if he hides his face, I can't take his picture. He don't know me very well, do he?

Gratuitous posed picture of cute grand kid. He's wearing his new T Ball cap and shirt. His team is the Muck Dogs sponsored by Hidden Hollow. He says practice is hard, not fun, and boring. That's what video games do to a kid, I guess. Anyway, let the games begin! In about a week.

He really wanted this tulip for his mom, so I cut the two yellow ones we have in the yard, figuring the wind and rain would destroy them. Put them in a glass with water and brought them inside. He forgot to give them to his mom after all. Oh well. Tomorrow is another day. (God willing!)

Day Ninety Three 2011

80 degrees today. W I N D Y! This was my view from my front porch swing this afternoon while I did a little reading and enjoyed being a big lazy slug. You got to grab it while you can get it. The weekend flies by. Monday comes all too soon.

Day Ninety One 2011

The Mourning Dove. My question is how do they tell each other apart? I can just hear one of them now: "Honey, is that you? Oh, sorry, I thought you were...."

Here are some fun facts I didn't know about these creatures. (They've always seemed a bit dumb to me, lumbering around the yard, but since I read this, I have a new respect for them):

The Mourning Dove is one of the most abundant and widespread of all North American birds. It is also the leading game bird, with up to 70 million birds shot annually in the U.S., both for sport and for meat. Its ability to sustain its population under such pressure stems from its prolific breeding: in warm areas, one pair may raise up to six broods a year. Its plaintive woo-oo-oo-oo call gives the bird its name. The wings can make an unusual whistling sound upon take-off and landing, and the bird is a strong flier, capable of speeds up to 88 km/h (55 mph). Mourning Doves are light grey and brown and generally muted in color. Males and females are similar in appearance. The species is generally monogamous, with two squabs (young) per brood. Both parents incubate and care for the young. Mourning Doves eat almost exclusively seeds, but the young are fed crop milk by their parents. (from Wikipedia)

Did you learn something? Good. Now go and have a happy weekend!

Day Ninety 2011

Grape hyacinths growing wild on the hillside in my back yard. And since they grow wild around here, I figured they were a weed. I was wrong, which wouldn't be the first time, especially about plant life. Here's something I learned: they are not hyacinths but a member of the lily family, native to the Mediterranean area and Asia Minor and they have a musky-grassy smell. I like them and wish we had more. Guess I could head over to Lowe's and buy me some grape hyacinth bulbs. Who knew?

Day Eighty Nine 2011

Grand daughter Shelby is stylin in her Vera Bradley dress that she got at TJ Maxx. She noticed the designer name on the dress because it's the same designer name on her glasses. She's pretty style-conscious at the age of nine. When I was nine, I somehow had clothes on my body and wore some hand-me-downs from older girl cousins. Now my daily uniform is the usual T shirt, jeans, and tennis shoes. I guess I should let Shelby teach me a thing or two. But I'm probably beyond any help in that area.

Day Eighty Seven 2011

What a beautiful, sunny, chilly, blue sky spring day! Monday is always my busiest chore day, so I got outside only long enough to watch grand daughter Shelby cross the street from school and snap this picture of the cherry blossoms against that awesome blue. I'd like to enjoy those blossoms as much as possible. They'll be gone soon.
