"That beautiful season the Summer!
Filled was the air with a dreamy and magical light;
And the landscape
Lay as if new created in all the freshness of childhood."

Happy TGIF! Hope your day was filled with magical light.

Day One Hundred Ninety Nine 2013

HAPPY 12TH BIRTHDAY, SHELBY!

She is simply the best granddaughter anyone could ever have. Sweet. Funny. Smart. Beautiful inside and out. Shelby turned 12 years old today. She is always excited about her special day every year. Today’s plans didn’t turn out so well, though. Her mom took the day off, and she and Shelby were going to spend the day together shopping while little brother Elijah went fishing with his grandpa. But her mom got called back into work unexpectedly and ended up having to work very late into the evening. So all her birthday plans had to be postponed until tomorrow. Very disappointing, but she didn’t complain. She’s just a good kid that way. She and I went shopping this afternoon while the guys fished and she used some of her birthday money to buy some really cute clothes. So maybe her day wasn’t a total bust, and she does have her party with family to look forward to this weekend. Happy Birthday, Shelby! I love you more than you’ll ever know. You’re the best!

Day One Hundred Ninety Eight 2013

Little ladybug on my arm
you wear a heart as part of your charm
You joined me on this sunny day
just for a moment then you flew away.
~Author Unknown

I lifted my cup to take a sip of my drink at Taco Bell today and there was this ladybug, clinging to the cold, wet side. I figured it would eventually either fly away or drop into my food, so I nudged it onto the table where it crawled around in circles. Neil finally caught it on his finger and took it outside where it flew away. Ladybugs are supposed to be good for your garden and bring good luck. I’m lucky it didn’t end up in my chicken quesadilla. [Couldn’t resist adding that cute corny ladybug poem]

It was a beautiful afternoon. Grandson Knox braved the mosquitoes and spent some time jumping on the trampoline, blowing a few bubbles, and fishing in the watering can to see what he could catch [a very soggy leaf] ~ all of it fun. Except for the ‘skeeter  bites. [Hope your Monday did not bite]

My niece Evan married her long-time sweetheart Shaun this afternoon. They had a beautiful and simply sweet outdoor ceremony under blue sky and puffy white clouds with family and friends cheering them on. They’ve loved each other for a long time. They’re a good match. Wishing them a happily ever after.

HAPPY 18TH BIRTHDAY, SARAH!

My sweet niece Sarah celebrated her 18th birthday this evening with family and friends and a yummy chocolate cake. [Her official birth date is tomorrow] These past 18 years have rushed by, crazy fast. I’ve watched her grow up into this unique, smart, talented, gorgeous, funny and fun to be with young woman who is one of my favorite people on the planet. But then she’s always been all those things. Her future is shiny bright. Can’t wait to see where she goes and how she gets there. Wishing you all the best of everything life has to offer, Sarah. Love you to pieces.

Day One Hundred Ninety Two 2013

0711031114
This has been my week for doc appointments and needle sticks. Stick a needle fork in me, I am done. Today’s doc visit was a general one which they term a ‘wellness visit’. Not only did I get this fun blood work done [my big fat veins are an easy stick and nurse Pat is awesome at this], but I also got two inoculations. Two! A pneumonia shot [another joy of growing older] and a whooping cough shot [which is probably more to protect the little peeps in my life than it is to protect me]. All this on top of my shot in the knee yesterday, and I should be spouting water out all the needle holes in my body [SpongeBob comes to mind for some reason]. Let’s give God the glory for modern medicine, as invasive and uncomfortable as it can be sometimes. I think my next stop will be for a hearing test. [Huh?] I see hearing aids in my near future. [What?]

Day One Hundred Ninety One 2013

IMG_0389
Uh oh, Kay has a boo boo on her left knee. Not really. Well, actually, my whole left knee is one big boo boo. Bad knees run in my family. Wish I was immune. Doc says my meniscus [a pad of fibrous tissue which cushions the femur and tibia] is showing some wear, which is causing me grief. One of the joys of growing older, but growing older beats the alternative, as they say. I think so, anyway. So he gave me a shot [in the knee as you can see~ouch!] of cortisone which should ease my pains in the coming weeks [hopefully]. Back in six weeks for a look-see. Hope your Wednesday was pain free.

Day One Hundred Eighty Nine 2013

PLAY ‘TIL YOU WIN!
0708031308a
We ended up at CiCi’s Pizza today for lunch. The kids, big and small, were attracted to the game room where  Kelly and Shelby sparred in a game of air hockey.
0708031308b
Elijah drove a race car ~ mostly on the side of the road. No seat belt.
0708031309b
And ~ uh oh! ~ Knox spied …
0708031311
… Elmo buried in that impossible quest where you drop the claw on top of the toy you want and pray that it latches on so you can pull it out of the pile. Grandpa knew this particular quest would bear no fruit ~ Elmo ~ so he didn’t even try. Walked away. Left Elmo buried. Uh oh.
0708031312
Shelby found a game ~ with a similar claw ~ that scooped up candy and cheap plastic toys. Not as difficult as that other game.
0708031312b
They scooped out all sorts of goodies.
0708031313
The name of the game!
0708031315
But, alas, Elmo got left behind, buried in the machine, and there was no consoling Knox, who cried big tears, and wailed for Elmo all the way home. We’ve never seen him so distraught. But time heals all wounds. He soon forgot his heartbreak and finally moved on with his life, thank goodness. School of hard knocks [Knox?]. Lesson learned. You don’t always get what you want. It must be Monday or something.

Day One Hundred Eighty Eight 2013

0707031315
Will you look at that! It’s blue sky and sunlight! All day! We’d almost forgotten what this looked like.
0707031330a
Grandson Knox enjoyed his Strawberries and Cream treat at Starbucks this afternoon.
0707031340a
And then he jumped up and did his happy dance ~ just because. So here we go. Another week begins. Hope yours is joyful.

Day One Hundred Eighty Seven 2013

0706031341
At Wal-Mart today, grandson Knox cried big tears when we had to take his Elmo bibs, Elmo plate, and Elmo fork and spoon away from him long enough to run them through the check out scanner. You would have thought we were chopping off his arms and legs. No bagging these items. He got them back and carried them to the car and held them all the way home. Some things are sacred. You just don’t take away a man’s Elmo stuff.
